Happy Thoughts: November 28, 2020 at 03:39AM

We all try to plan out our lives. It brings a sense of purpose and knowledge of where we are going to end up. It can be comforting having a plan, and most of us expect it all to happen.

Unfortunately, life doesn’t always go as planned, especially when our goals and ambitions are extremely specific. When expectations are tied to finite opportunities, many of us will miss the mark and become unhappy.

For example, there are so many people who want to become famous singers, but there are only so many spaces for them. And when goals like that aren’t accomplished, we feel frustrated and unhappy with ourselves.

Of course, it’s ok to have a specific goal like becoming a famous singer and working hard towards it, but it shouldn’t be a priority in life. Instead of having extremely specific goals, we should work towards more general ones like our values and what types of people we want to become; this creates more flexibility and we have more options to finding happiness and self-fulfillment even when our specific goals aren’t reached.

Start by questioning how your ambitions contribute to your overall happiness.
