Irrational guilt can be a heavy burden. Feeling guilty about things like putting our needs before others or having boundaries can really hold us back and make it almost impossible to do what’s best for us. We tend to ignore or suppress our feelings of guilt because we don’t know how to deal with them, but this will only hurt us in the long run. We should instead explore the source of our guilt, whether that be trauma, self-hatred, etc., and learn how to navigate it.
Journaling whenever we feel guilty is a great exercise. It helps us instantly acknowledge our feelings and often recognize that we have no good reason to feel guilty. And even if we do, just like everyone else, we deserve to be forgiven and most importantly to forgive ourselves.
