So many of us believe that after accomplishing that one thing, we’ll be happy. And when we don’t accomplish that goal that we’ve been working towards for however long, or even realize that it’s not for us anymore, we feel like we’ve lost part of our identity. This is all due to the fact that we place so much of our self-worth in our accomplishments.
Not achieving a goal doesn’t make us any less worthy just like accomplishing a goal doesn’t guarantee our happiness. Happiness and self-worth should never be placed in one thing. We should build on those things every day and throughout our journey towards our goals.
Listing positive changes in ourselves like healthy habits or new skills that we’ve acquired over time can really help us realize that the journey towards our goal is what really matters. Reflecting on all the growth in ourselves makes that entire process worthwhile regardless of whether we’ve accomplished our goals or not.
