What is the difference between joy and happiness? (Can be done as a short as well)
The answer here is painfully simple. These two words are technically interchangeable. People use them differently.
Here’s the distinction to be made:
One experience is a transitory emotion of heightened positivity.
Another experience is a sense of contentment, peace, and calm.
And sometimes a third experience of connectedness and/or purpose shows up.
I personally find happiness to be the more encompassing words, but it really doesn’t matter.
Fighting about the exact definition is sort of pointless. What’s more important is knowing what you’re talking about, being able to communicate that clearly, and knowing what others mean when they use particular words.
How do you define joy? What about happiness?
How often do you check that others understand your terms?
